According to local Captains along the coast from Destin and Panama City Beach (PCB) to Gulf Shores, the fishing conditions have been sensational this past week. The forecast for the upcoming week looks promising, with waves expected to remain between 0-2 feet, creating near-calm surface conditions, especially in the mornings.
Inshore Fishing Report
The inshore fishing last week was incredibly successful. Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, and Speckled Trout were plentiful, eagerly chasing schools of baitfish. Anglers reported catching multiple fish within hours, highlighting the high activity in these waters. For example, several local fishermen shared their catches of up to 50 Spanish Mackerel in a single outing, showcasing just how active the fish are.
As the fall season unfolds, the inshore bite will only get better. Cooler temperatures mean more activity among fish, significantly increasing your chances for a hefty catch. If you’re eyeing your next fishing trip, the current season is the perfect time to set a date!

Offshore Fishing Highlights
What’s hot right now? Amberjack and Red Snapper have been performing best in the early mornings. In addition, numerous anglers have also succeeded in catching Red Grouper, Scamp, Mahi Mahi, Black Drum, and even Trigger Fish. Every trip brings the possibility of encountering different species, making each outing exciting.
As temperatures cool, more fish are moving closer to shore. Currently, White Marlin and Tuna are being caught off the coast of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. If you’re looking for a thrill and want to target something extraordinary, here's your chance!
Special Notes for Anglers
Alabama Fishermen
Great news for Alabama anglers! The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) has confirmed that the red snapper season is open daily until the yearly quota of 664,552 pounds is met. This is an exciting opportunity to reel in some fresh snapper, which has been shown to be 30% more abundant this year compared to last.
Florida Fishermen
For those fishing in Florida, snapper season is restricted to weekends only. Make sure to plan your outings carefully to maximize this limited opportunity. The snapper populations have increased, and these weekends could lead to productive trips.
Upcoming Events
Mark your calendars for the Destin Fishing Rodeo, starting in October! This beloved annual competition draws participants from all over, showcasing the best catches in a festive environment. Expect to see fine displays of local talent and maybe even catch a glimpse of record-setting fish.
