Stormy Skies, Hot Bite — Snapper Season Settles Into Week 3


The Gulf is in a classic early‑June pattern: storms in the morning, clearing by midday, and a strong offshore bite when the seas settle. Despite the weather, anglers from Destin → PCB → Orange Beach are reporting excellent snapper limits, steady mingo action, and a noticeable uptick in sharks and mahi offshore.

Red Snapper

  • Destin charters reporting consistent limits June 2–4

  • Mixed bags of red snapper, mingo, mangroves on bottom trips

  • Larger fish still coming from 140–180 ft

  • Nearshore reefs holding plenty of 16–20" fish

Mingo (Vermillion Snapper)

  • Very strong on natural bottom

  • Many boats adding 10–20 mingos per trip (inferred from multiple June 2–4 catch reports)

Sharks

  • High shark activity June 3–4 — multiple bull shark catches reported

  • Expect cut‑offs on deeper wrecks

Mahi

  • Early June weedlines forming offshore

  • Several charters reporting bonus mahi on snapper trips (inferred from June trend reports)

Kings & Spanish

  • Spanish are the clearest nearshore bite around Orange Beach & Perdido Pass

  • Kings steady on buoys and bait pods

Inshore

  • Trout, redfish, and flounder strong around grass edges, oyster beds, and docks in AL/FL waters
