Inshore Fishing Report: Strong Bites Ahead
Our inshore fishing reports from last week have highlighted incredible opportunities. Anglers have been catching Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, and Speckled Trout in abundance. The healthy bites are creating excitement among both novice and experienced fishers.
If you want to target these species, here are some tips:
Spanish Mackerel: Use light tackle and shiny lures or live bait to attract their attention.
Redfish: Look for them around grassy shorelines and use cut bait or soft plastics.
Speckled Trout: These fish love to hang out in deeper waters and can be lured with popping corks and live shrimp.
Remember, timing is crucial. Early mornings and late afternoons often yield the best results.
What’s Hot This Week
What is HOT right now? Red Grouper, Scamp, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, Wahoo, Trout, Redfish, and a variety of Snapper species are giving anglers plenty of action. The recent wave subsiding has significantly improved bottom fishing, leading to numerous successful outings targeting these species.

Additionally, big Tuna have been hitting the scales during the Destin Rodeo this week. It demonstrates the robust fishing opportunities in the region, and anglers are encouraged to make their plans accordingly!
Special Notices for Fishermen
Recreational Fishing Season Closure: It’s important to note that there is a temporary closure for Greater Amberjack in Federal Waters of the Gulf. Make sure to be aware of these regulations as they can affect your fishing plans.
Alabama Fishermen Alert
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) announced that the Red Snapper season will be open daily until anglers hit this year’s quota of 664,552 pounds. As of now, we do not have any additional updates regarding quota status, so stay tuned!
Florida Fishermen Update
In Florida, Snapper season is back to weekends only. This means you’ll want to plan your trips accordingly if you’re angling for Snapper in the Sunshine State.
The Thrill of the Destin Fishing Rodeo

The Destin Fishing Rodeo began on October 1 and has already seen exciting developments. With favorable weather conditions leading to record numbers of fish being weighed in, it’s a thrilling time for participants. On October 12 alone, 80 fish were added to the leaderboard, with many taking top positions in various divisions.
Anglers are coming from all over, with participants from Tennessee to North Carolina securing spots in red grouper and king mackerel divisions. Daily weigh-ins are happening on the docks behind AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar, so be sure to join the excitement!
Some of the standout catches come from the ChampionShip with Capt. Matt Champion, who returned from a long trip with three impressive yellowfin tuna weighing 83.4 pounds, 80.0 pounds, and 70.0 pounds, although these did not make the leaderboard this time. The current frontrunner is a hefty 112-pounds!
