The rut is reaching its peak in many areas, but hunters across the country are finding this season both exciting and challenging. Many are experiencing long, quiet sits as bucks are staying close to does, making deer sightings less frequent than expected. |
Despite these slow periods, the rut is far from over. In fact, some of the best opportunities to spot a mature buck often come later in November and even into December. While overall deer movement may not match the flurry of activity seen in late October, this period can be prime time for catching a wise old buck on his feet. |
5-Day Hunting Forecast |
Weather & Moon Phase Update: Gun seasons are opening or underway in many states. Last week’s cold front brought a welcome boost in deer activity, but warmer weather is expected this weekend before another cool-down arrives early next week. Overall, conditions have been favorable for hunting this season. The next new moon is on Nov. 20, and forecasts suggest several periods of increased deer movement in the coming days, especially around midday on Wednesday, Nov. 19. While dawn and dusk remain the best times, staying in the stand throughout the day could pay off. This week’s hunting outlook: 4 out of 5 stars! |
