Welcome back to your weekly fishing report from Bedsole Outdoor Adventures. John Bedsole spent last week traveling the Gulf Coast — from Mexico Beach to Panama City Beach, Fort Walton, Destin, Pensacola, and Gulf Shores/Orange Beach — talking directly with captains about the bite, the weather, and the energy building for the start of Red Snapper Season.
Despite another week of variable weather, every captain along the coast is fired up. Snapper Season opens next week, and there are still a few trips available for opening weekend.

Weather & Conditions
The weather has been a major variable across the Gulf:
Wind: 10–18 knots early week, easing to 6–12 knots by the weekend
Waves: 2–4 ft early, improving to 1–2 ft as winds settle
Water Temp: Upper‑70s to low‑80s
Clarity: Patchy in spots, but improving daily with cleaner green water pushing in
Overall: Once this weather stabilizes — and it will — expect the bite to jump fast. Captains from every port reported the same thing: “When it opens up, it’s going to be on fire.”
What’s Biting (5/15–5/21)
Offshore
Mahi-Mahi: Strong push of fish reported from Destin to PCB
Blackfin Tuna: Early morning bite around rips and temperature breaks
Vermilion Snapper: Excellent numbers on natural bottom
Scamp Grouper: Reliable in 180–260 ft
King Mackerel: Good action returning as water clarity improves
Wahoo: Scattered but possible along deeper edges
Nearshore
Spanish Mackerel: Thick along the beaches when water cleans up
Cobia: A few late-season fish still sliding through
Pompano: Solid surf bite on cleaner beaches
Jack Crevalle: Big schools cruising the surf and passes
Inshore
Speckled Trout: Strong topwater bite at first light
Redfish: Consistent around docks, grass lines, and bay systems
Flounder: Increasing activity around sandy drop-offs and structure
